Portland Place School is a co-educational independent day school in London. Located in the heart of the City of Westminster, it was founded with the purpose of providing a relaxed learning environment, as a direct response to the many intense and examination-focused independent day schools in London.
In Senior School, pupils take lessons in English, mathematics, science, history, geography, drama, music, computing, design technology, MFL and PE.
After-class activities offer pupils an array of opportunities to broaden their interests. These range from LAMDA, Debating Club and Design Club, to Russian, Mandarin and Spanish MFL clubs.

Portland Place School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child, you should submit an application form with a copy of their most recent school report. The registration fee is £75.
Your child will then be invited to attend a relatively informal 20-minute interview with senior members of staff in November.
The entrance assessment will take place in January. Around this time, your child’s current school will be contacted for a reference.
Offers of places are sent out by letter in February. To accept the offer, you will be expected to pay a deposit of £2,000 to secure your child’s place.
Portland Place School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships can cover up to 15% of the school fees. They are reviewed annually and depend on your child’s conduct, attitude, participation and progress.
To apply for a Scholarship, you should send the school a letter expressing your interest in the award by December.
Art Scholarships are awarded to candidates who demonstrate outstanding ability in art and concepts appropriate to the appreciation of art. These are offered following a portfolio inspection.
Drama Scholarships are awarded to applicants who demonstrate talent and attributes valued in the theatre, such as reliability, flexibility, dedication and team working skills. As part of the assessment, there will be an audition.
Music Scholarships reward exceptional ability and potential as tested in an audition by the Director of Music.
Sports Scholarships are offered to applicants who excel in Sports/Games.

The Portland Place School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
