Norwich High School for Girls is an independent day school for girls in Norwich. Founded in 1875 by the Girls’ Day School Trust, the school was recently named by a panel as the country’s top Independent Girls’ School.
In Year 7, girls study a core curriculum that includes art and textiles, computer science, drama, DT, English, geography, history, Latin, two modern foreign languages (French and either Spanish or German), music, PE, mathematics, RS and science.
Encouraged to explore new ideas and think creatively, girls regularly partake in a variety of co-curricular activities, including Chess, Ecology, Mandarin, Debating and Fitness. Trips and expeditions are a special addition to the superb education on offer at Norwich High. They include journeys to Normandy, Iceland, Barcelona and Madagascar.

Norwich High School for Girls 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Applying to join Norwich High School can be done online, or you can download the application form and return it together with a Registration Fee of £75 to the Registrar. At this stage, you will also be able to apply for Bursaries and Scholarships.
The Entrance Assessments are mainly held in January and places are awarded on the basis of merit and potential demonstrated in the exam, the interview with the Headmistress and a current school report.
Offer letters are posted by the end of February and Scholarships and Bursaries will also be confirmed at this stage. Upon receipt of an offer letter, you will have a specified amount of time to respond.
Scholarships are awarded to girls who show exceptional ability and potential in a number of disciplines. Successful applicants remain Scholars throughout their time at Norwich High School.
Applications for scholarships should be submitted in the Autumn Term prior to the year of entry.
Bursaries are awarded on the basis of academic merit and are means-tested according to parental income. Bursaries covering 100% of the fees may be awarded if your total income is less than £35,000 and you have no capital assets other than your home.
Post entry bursaries can be considered at key stages, subject to the school’s budget.
Bursaries that cover less than 100% of the fees will be awarded on a graded scale, according to parental income. Note that bursaries are reassessed annually.

The Norwich High School for Girls entrance assessment consists of the following papers:
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal)
The English paper examines comprehension and writing skills, whilst the maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
The Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess your child’s logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary, as well as their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
