Newcastle-under-Lyme School is an independent co-educational school in the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. It was born out of the merger of the old Newcastle High School and the Orme Girls’ School.
Seniors take lessons in art & design, biology, chemistry, computing, DT, drama, English Language & Literature, food and nutrition, geography, history, Latin, mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, music, physical education, physics, RS and philosophy.
After classes, they partake in a rich programme of Clubs, Drama, House Activities, Music, Scouts and Sports. Via the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, pupils outgrow their comfort zone whilst building confidence, resilience, work skills and firm friendships.

The open events are in the form of Open Mornings, which are set in October. To arrange a personal visit, please visit the school’s website.
To register your child, you should complete an official Registration Form and return it prior to the entrance assessment. Registration Forms are available on the school’s website. Note that the school will ask for a copy of the child’s birth certificate and request reports from your child’s current school.
After sitting the entrance assessments, the school will notify you in writing about a school place, normally within two weeks. If you receive an offer, you should accept it in writing and pay deposits, which are held until the child leaves the school.
Financial assistance with fees (Bursaries) on a means‐tested basis is available to support pupils in the Senior School. Bursaries offer financial support depending on your income. The Newcastle-under-Lyme School entrance assessment consists of the following tests:
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The computer based assessment is likely to be similar to CEM Select, which examines your child’s skills in Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Reasoning.
