The entrance examinations take place on the final Friday of January each year. As part of the admissions process, your child will be interviewed by the Deputy Principal and Head of Year 7.

At 11+, Howell’s School offers English, Mathematics and Music Scholarships. They come in the form of a modest financial award, usually to a value of 5% of the school fees.
Honorary Scholarships are awarded to pupils who are narrowly unsuccessful in obtaining a scholarship. They provide the applicant with a status of Honorary Scholar and are a recognition of your daughter’s potential and commitment to a particular area.

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
