As part of the Open Morning visit, parents meet up with the Head. The school also offers a pupil-guided tour and the opportunity to talk with staff on an informal basis.

Chigwell School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

Chigwell School is a selective independent school which welcomes pupils from many different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Throughout the admissions process, the following criteria are considered:

• performance in an entrance exam
• conduct in an interview
• the quality of a report from the current school

The 11+ interview consists of two parts: an interview with parents, who will have the opportunity to meet with a senior member of staff and discuss their child’s interests, and an interview with candidates for entry, lasting 30 minutes.

The 11+ entrance examination takes place in January. If the candidate does exceptionally well, they may be called for a scholarship interview and assessment. The results of the 11+ entrance examination will be posted in February. The deadline for acceptance of an offer is in March.

Chigwell School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

The 11+ exam at Chigwell School consists of the following assessment:

• Online test
• Creative writing paper

The online test has two parts. In Part One, the following skills are assessed:

⦾ Maths – the questions assess skills in topics like arithmetic and problem-solving, including diagrams/charts.

⦾ English – the questions are multiple-choice, assessing reading comprehension, grammar and punctuation skills.

⦾ Verbal Reasoning – the questions evaluate vocabulary and understanding of meaning in context.

⦾ Non-Verbal Reasoning – the questions evaluate the ability to reason using shapes, space, diagrams and images.

In Part Two, the Chigwell School 11+ entrance exam features the following sections:

⦾ Puzzles & Problem Solving – this section includes interactive puzzles accompanied by questions that require typed answers.

⦾ Creative Comprehension – this section features multiple-choice questions based on various sources like text, maps, diagrams, timetables and charts.

The Creative writing paper will assess punctuation, grammar and spelling skills, as well as imagination and creativity, and it will last 30 minutes.
