Introduction
Carre’s Grammar School was founded in 1604. A selective grammar, it caters to boys aged 11-18 while also boasting a co-educational sixth form. Situated in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, Carre’s transitioned to an academy in 2011 and takes great pride in its rich history, overarching offering and impressive list of notable alumni. [1]
Its curriculum is broad and contemporary, featuring a number of disciplines relevant to further education. Boys benefit from engaging and interactive lessons, boosting their competencies in the areas of social studies, economics, MFL, science and many other subjects.
To maximise the cohort’s non-academic development, Carre’s Grammar offers a myriad of extracurriculars, including sports, language clubs and music activities. Students also frequently participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, growing in adaptability, resourcefulness and resilience while expanding their leadership skills. [2]
Carre’s pastoral care provision is personalised, addressing individual needs to ensure each student feels seen, heard and supported. Recognising pupils’ unique experiences and circumstances, the school’s support system is tailored to cater to these differences, working collaboratively with parents to foster a nurturing environment.
The ethos at Carre’s Grammar School embodies a quest for excellence, paired with a dedication to continuous improvement. By critically engaging in their educational experiences, pupils grow into independent and flexible thinkers who produce strong examination results. Recently, 63% of pupils achieved grade 5 or above in English and Mathematics, and 99% of leavers stayed in education or employment after KS4. [3]

⦿ Children who are, or who have been in Looked After care
⦿ Students in receipt of Pupil Premium
⦿ Pupils who have brothers or sisters already at the school
⦿ Students who live closest to the school.

Carre’s Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The 11 Plus Exam at Carre’s Grammar School consists of two tests:
⦿ Verbal Reasoning
These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.
⦿ Non-Verbal Reasoning/Spatial Reasoning
The Lincolnshire 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.
The Spatial Reasoning sections in the Lincolnshire 11 Plus Exam are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.
In order to select the top 25% of pupils, test scores are ranked in order and age-standardised.
