The 13+ Late Transfer test for Year 9 entry assesses students’ skills across three broad areas and has a duration of approximately one hour.


To be eligible for this assessment, your child must be registered by the deadline in October of the year prior to entry. During the registration process, you will also need to indicate your school preferences and provide information regarding your child’s eligibility for Pupil Premium and Free School Meals. Additionally, it is important to disclose any medical or social needs that may impact their ranking.


Invitations for the Late Transfer test are typically sent out in December, and it is essential to confirm your child’s attendance by a specified date. The test is administered in February of the calendar year of entry, and results are communicated the following month.

The Burnham Grammar School 13+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:

  • Non-Verbal Reasoning (GL)


The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include multiple-choice questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.


The multiple-choice Verbal Reasoning paper is designed to test and assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.


The multiple-choice Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
