Introduction
Bedford Girls’ School is an independent school for girls located in Bedfordshire. The school was born out of the merger of Bedford High School and Dame Alice Harpur School, and became fully operational in 2012.
In Year 7, girls study English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, history, religious studies, MFL, drama, music, dance, PE, art, design technology, food & nutrition, computer science, textiles, classics and PSHE.
The broad curriculum is further enriched via an extensive co-curricular programme which covers clubs and activities such as French Club, Geography Society, German Film Club, Xplore, Model United Nations (MUN), UK Linguistic Olympiad and Mindfulness Club.
The school nurtures individuality and talents amongst girls who are supported and challenged to step outside of their comfort zone. Bedford Girls’ School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Bedford Girls’ School looks for girls who will contribute to the life of the school and fully benefit from the education on offer. Selection for entry is based on merit, assessed through entrance tests, references from your daughter’s current school, interviews and recent reports.
The first step of the admissions process requires that you complete a registration form and pay the £125 registration fee, which is non-refundable. Your daughter will then be invited to sit entrance examinations, set in January prior to the Autumn Term admission. There will also be an interview.
Upon successful performance in all key stages of the admissions process, your daughter may receive an offer of a place (towards the middle of February). You will be asked to confirm the acceptance by early March and pay a deposit of £500, which is refunded when your daughter leaves the school.
Bedford Girls’ School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are not available, as the school uses all available funds to provide means-tested bursaries to the most academically gifted candidates. If you are in need of financial assistance with fees, please note that there are certain criteria you and your daughter must meet in order to be awarded a bursary.
Namely, the school will take into account your finances and your daughter’s academic performance in the entrance assessment papers, as well as the quality of her school report. The evaluation procedure will include a home visit and a review of your financial documentation in order for the school to establish the level of need. Bursary application forms can be obtained from the admissions team.
