Introduction

Ashville College is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils from the ages 3 to 18. It is located in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The school was founded in 1877 by the United Methodist Free Church, and it is now open to non-Methodists. It became co-educational in 1982.

With a clear focus on academic excellence, Ashville enables pupils to be prepared for the increasing complexities of life. The approach towards educating pupils is individualised in the sense that each child’s talent and ability is recognised within the scope of the inclusive education on offer.

Whilst fostering a global perspective, the school promotes digital fluency based on adaptability, creativity, resilience and critical self-reflection. Through the comprehensive curricular and extra-curricular programmes, pupils at Ashville are being prepared for professions that may not yet have even been invented.

Year 7 pupils follow a curriculum that covers the core subjects, as well as Latin, history, geography, religious studies, ICT, food and nutrition, music, art, design and technology and drama. They also choose from French, Spanish and German as modern language options.

The extra-curricular programme offers every child at least one activity to enjoy and excel in. Such activities include Chess, Climbing, Computer Xplorer, Cooking, Creative Writing, Debating, French Club, Mandarin, Law Society, Robot Club, Science Club and Street Dance.

Pupils can also undertake their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. As a spirit of adventure is combined with major challenges, pupils gain experiences that will stay with them for life.

Regarding student well-being, the school works closely with both parents and pupils via a dedicated Pastoral care programme. Whilst promoting the academic development of the individual, the school’s team of medical professionals ensures that the physical, emotional and psychological health of every child is maintained as well.
