Introduction
Ackworth School is an independent, co-ed day and boarding school located in the village of High Ackworth, West Yorkshire. Founded in 1779, it is one of seven Quaker Schools in England. [1]
In the Junior School, also known as Coram House, pupils study English, maths, science, geography, history, RE, music, PE, art, DT, games, PSHE, computing and drama.
Their interests are further expanded via the rich programme of co-curricular clubs and societies, including Book Club, Chess Club, Debating Club, Orchestra and Gardening Club, amongst others.
Taking full advantage of the campus’ extensive grounds, pupils take part in the outdoor learning programme called Forest School, building in this way a sense of independence and self-esteem through numerous problem solving and teamwork tasks.
The school’s community of ‘international dimensions’ is characterised by discipline and mutual respect, encouraging service to those in need in line with the values of Quakers. Enabling pupils of diverse backgrounds to progress at their individual pace towards achieving their best academic outcomes, Ackworth ensures that they leave school with the capacity for a full and productive life in the adult world.
