Introduction

Dragon School is a top-performing independent school in Oxford with a long and impressive list of notable alumni. Founded in 1877, its preparatory department Dragon Prep caters for both day and boarding pupils in line with the highest pastoral standards and the motto Arduus ad Solem (Reach for the Sun). [1]

The school places great emphasis on understanding each child’s learning style, hence the syllabus is designed to meet individual needs. Teaching is of a very high standard and the curriculum is characterised by abundance, boasting everything from languages and technology to humanities and science.

Encouraging intellectual inquisitiveness, Dragon Prep challenges pupils to think both creatively and critically in order to grow into the visionaries of tomorrow. Accordingly, the school endeavours to cultivate the cohort’s cultural awareness and aesthetic appreciation through regular excursions to places of historical and spiritual significance, as well as prestigious museums and art galleries in the local area. Dragon School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format

The Dragon School 7+ entrance exam consists of the following assessments:

  • English
  • Mathematics

The English assessment evaluates various language skills, including comprehension and writing. The paper tests your child’s ability to understand written texts and express themselves through writing. Additionally, it evaluates their spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of their reading and oral skills.

The maths exam thoroughly evaluates your child’s mathematical abilities, such as their knowledge of times tables and proficiency in arithmetic. The exam is designed to measure your child’s understanding of mathematical concepts and their ability to apply them to solve problems.
