Bedford School is an independent school for boys located in the county town of Bedford. Founded in 1552, the school has an impressive list of notable alumni, including one Nobel Prize winner, recipients of the Victoria Cross and winners of seven Olympic gold medals. It is the oldest of four independent schools in Bedford run by the Harpur Trust.
In the Prep School, the curriculum provides strong support in the areas of English, maths and science, along with further teaching for French, art, ICT, humanities, music, DT and PE. The school’s bespoke Future Skills Curriculum develops boys’ subject-specific skills through metacognitive learning strategies in order to maximise their awareness and academic progress.
Beyond the classroom, children develop further skills through participation in a range of activities, including Classical Myths & Legends, Theatre Tech, Music Theory, Chess, Fencing and Cricket.
Benefiting from an excellent pastoral network that provides them with guidance and support when they need it, boys grow in resilience and character whilst producing outstanding exam results. As a result, the school was rated as ‘excellent’ in all categories by ISI during their most recent inspection.
Bedford’s School’s holistic approach towards education ensures that pupils leave not just with strong skills and qualifications, but also with high levels of self-esteem and the ability to develop firm friendships and meaningful connections throughout their lives.
