Introduction

 

Thomas Telford School (TTS) is a City Technology College in Telford, Shropshire. Sponsored by The Mercers Company and Tarmac Holdings Limited, TTS is regularly amongst the top performing comprehensive schools in the country. It is also the first comprehensive school nationally to achieve a GCSE pass rate of 100% A*-C grades. [1]

 

In Year 7, pupils study English, mathematics, science, humanities, religious studies, French or Spanish, technology, drama, music, art, computing and PE.

 

Academic education at TTS is complemented by volunteering activities, actively encouraged by the school. Via schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the National Citizen Service, pupils engage in voluntary work on locations such as Princess Royal Hospital Telford and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

 

A pioneer amongst schools that use IT for education, TTS has an advanced internal network endorsed by Novell; provides an extranet, enabling students and staff to access their files and email from home, and has at least one computer and interactive whiteboard in every classroom. The Headmaster’s decision will be based on the following criteria:

• The pupil’s competence in Technology, Science and Mathematics 
• The pupil’s motivation to succeed.
