Overview

 

Founded in 1560, Solihull School is a coeducational, independent school located in Solihull, West Midlands. It is the oldest school in the town and educates approximately 1050 students aged 7 to 18.

 

The school provides great facilities and students participate in a wide-ranging extracurricular programme, including sports, debating club and music. Solihull School has a strong pastoral care network that underpins pupils’ successes.

 

Admissions Process for Solihull School at 7 Plus (7+)

 

Registration

 

Parents should apply for a Year 3 place for their child by the end of November of the year preceding entry. The registration form can be found on the school’s website. It should be completed and returned to the school with the required identification and a non-refundable registration fee of £50.

 

Open Days/Visits

 

Solihull School hosts open mornings during the school year, usually in June and September. These events give parents the chance to take a tour of the school and talk to staff. The school also allows prospective pupils to attend a taster day, giving them first-hand experience of a normal day in the classroom.

Entrance Exams

 

The Solihull School 7 plus exam takes place in January. Pupils will sit papers in English and Mathematics. The first English test focuses on students’ comprehension of a fiction text, which asks literal, deductive and inferential questions. The second English test is creative writing, where children have to write a short story on a given title.

 

There will be one written maths paper lasting 50 minutes, followed by ten minutes of mental arithmetic.

Destination Schools at 11+:

 

In most cases, students move to the main school at 11+.

 

Other entry points:  11+ (for entry into Year 7) and 16+ (for entry into Year 12). However, examinations for entry are also set at 8+ (for entry into Year 4), 9+ (for entry into Year 5), 10+ (for entry into Year 6), 12+ (for entry into Year 8), 13+ (for entry into Year 9) and, on occasions, 14+ (for entry into Year 10).

 

Scholarships and Bursaries: Available for 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form entry.
