Introduction
Pocklington School is an independent school in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Founded in 1514 by John Dolman, it is considered the 67th oldest school in the UK. Pocklington School occupies 50 acres of land. [1]
Although greater emphasis is placed on boosting pupils’ skills in the areas of maths and English, the school also provides excellent specialist teaching for a range of other subjects, including French, music, ICT, PE and art.
To meet pupils’ varying extracurricular interests, Pocklington School makes effective use of its grounds, offering a number of playing fields and sports pitches, a swimming pool and wildlife areas, as well as an impressive theatre where annual productions take place. The extensive site is also home to an array of cutting-edge facilities, enabling children’s access to a dedicated ICT suite, library and individual music practice rooms.
ISI inspectors visited the school recently and determined that Pocklington School successfully meets all required standards for education, including the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils, as well as the quality of academic and non-academic provision. [2]
In line with the motto ‘With virtue and truth’, the school produces well-grounded young individuals who leave school with a deeply internalised sense of personal and social responsibility, accessing the next stages of their lives with courage, honesty and trust.
