St Albans High School for Girls (STAHS) is an independent day school for girls in Hertfordshire. Founded in 1889, STAHS has both Prep and Senior schools, located in Wheathampstead and St Albans, respectively.
The Preparatory School occupies 18 acres of parkland, including play areas, an adventure playground and an outdoor learning classroom. 
Choosing from over 50 co-curricular clubs, STAHS girls further improve their skills in drama, dance, music and sports. The school’s very own Wild Woodland Adventure club allows girls to take part in a number of vastly popular activities such as fencing, archery and karate. Visits to theatres, museums, places of worship and nature reserves take place on a regular basis, with all related costs being included in the fees.

Applications: The deadline for applications is in November of the year preceding entry. The registration fee is £100.
The entrance examinations take place in December. Upon satisfactory performance, your daughter may receive an offer of a place (in late January). The deadline to accept the offer is in early February.

St Albans High School for Girls 8 Plus (8+) Entrance Exam Format
The 8+ examinations at STAHS consist of the following assessments:
- online tests in mathematics and English
- a creative writing task
The English online test is likely to examine comprehension skills, including inference and grammar. The English writing task tests writing skills and marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam, taken online, will examine your daughter’s knowledge in all areas of the syllabus.
