Introduction
St Albans High School for Girls (STAHS) is an independent day school for girls in Hertfordshire. The Prep School educates around 310 pupils and occupies 18 acres of parkland in the village of Wheathampstead. [1]
The extensive and challenging curriculum covers numerous disciplines, including maths, computing, English, Mandarin, MFL, art & design and science. To help girls discover new interests and talents, STAHS offers over 50 clubs and societies each week, ranging from fencing, archery and karate to orchestra, LAMDA and Yoga.
STAHS operates a House system and regularly hosts sports competitions between the four Houses, earning pupils rewards for positive conduct and attitude to learning.
Committed to nurturing each pupil individually, the school ensures that the learning environment is warm, supportive and characterised by excellent relationships between staff and pupils. St Albans High School for Girls 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
7+ is not STAHS’ formal entry point. It is considered an occasional vacancy, hence, prior to registering, please reach out to the Admissions Team.
The deadline for applications is in November of the year preceding entry. Assessments take place the following month, testing your daughter’s skills in Maths and English.
Subject to successful performance, she may receive an offer (in January), to be accepted by the deadline in early February.

Scholarships and bursaries are only available to Senior School applicants.

The STAHS 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English (online test)
- Maths (online test)
- Creative Writing
The English online assessment examines comprehension skills, including inference and grammar.
The Maths online test assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including her knowledge of times tables.
The Creative Writing paper measures writing skills. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
