The school is academically selective, evaluating candidates on the basis of entrance examinations taken in January prior to the September entry, and a confidential reference from your child’s current school. Offers are typically made a week after the January entrance examinations.
The school offers a number of Academic Scholarships covering no more than 10% of school fees. These are awarded on the basis of academic merit, demonstrated in the January exams. At 11+, the school also offers Music Scholarships. Scholars are expected to maintain excellent academic effort and demonstrate high standards of behaviour.
Scholarships may be supplemented by means-tested bursaries. They help promising children access Yarm School, regardless of their financial or domestic circumstances.
The level of bursary support is determined on a sliding scale, linked to your income, which should be less than £50,000 per annum. In some cases, the school also offers financial support for extras such as lunch, school trips and uniform.
Bursaries are reviewed annually. To apply, you should complete the application form available on the school’s website and send it in with a note to say you would like to be considered. All applications must be made in advance of the entrance examinations.
If there are more applicants than funds available, the deciding criteria for awarding a bursary will be the child’s academic performance in the entrance examinations. For more information, please contact the school.
