Year 7 pupils study English, maths, science, French, German, computer science, Latin, history, geography, design & technology, art, music and religion & philosophy.
The Outdoor Education programme includes a number of activities aiming to further develop pupils’ skill and abilities. By taking part in Canoeing & Kayaking, Caving, Climbing, Cycling, Ghyll Scrambling, Mountain Expeditioning and Sailing, children grow in self-confidence, self-reliance, personal organisation, teamwork, responsibility, leadership and environmental awareness.
In line with the motto Educating for Life, the school enables pupils to pursue high personal, academic and social standards by instilling in them the qualities of curiosity, concern, creativity, appreciation and respect. Yarm School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The school awards a number of Academic Scholarships on the basis of merit, demonstrated in the January exams. At 11+, the school also offers Music Scholarships. Scholars are expected to maintain excellent academic effort and demonstrate high standards of behaviour.
Scholarships may be supplemented by means-tested bursaries. They help promising children access Yarm School, regardless of their financial or domestic circumstances.
The level of bursary support is determined on a sliding scale, linked to your income, which should be less than £55,000 per annum. In some cases, the school also offers financial support for extras such as lunch, school trips and uniform.
Bursaries are reviewed annually and all applications must be made in advance of the entrance examinations. If there are more applicants than funds available, the deciding criteria for awarding a bursary will be the child’s academic performance in the entrance examinations.
