To register your attendance or schedule an individual visit, you should fill in the online form available on the College’s website. You can view the school’s exact location on the map below:

Wrekin College 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

The admissions process begins with registration. An online application form is available on the school’s website. Upon registration, your child will be asked to sit entrance examinations, taking place in November of the year preceding entry. A current-school reference will also be requested.

If your child  does not perform sufficiently well in the entry tests, they will be invited to come into school to spend some time with the Head of Support for Learning. In this way, they are given another chance to demonstrate their talents, allowing the school to see if there is any underlying reason, for example dyslexia, that explains why they failed to perform well on the test day.

Wrekin College 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

If they perform well in the exams, your child will be invited to sit a further set of tests which may qualify them for an Academic Scholarship. These tests examine skills in mathematics and English and there will also be an interview with the Head. Those interested in awards for Art, DT, Music, Drama or Sports will also be further assessed.

Pendle Awards are all-rounder awards offered to candidates who show high academic ability and excellence in other areas such as Sport, Music or Art. Those seeking a Pendle Award must sit the Academic Scholarship examination and meet the scholarship standard in at least one other area.

Bursaries are means-tested and are available to children whose parents are unable to afford the full school fees. To apply for a bursary, you will be asked to fill in a bursary form, reviewed by the Bursar, the Head and the Governors in confidence. For more information, please contact the school.

Wrekin College 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

The Wrekin College 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.

The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.

Please see below for further details and recommendations on how to prepare for the Wrekin College 11+ entrance examinations.
