Introduction
Worth School is an independent co-educational boarding and day school in West Sussex. Founded in 1617, Worth was exclusively a boys’ school until 2008.
In Year 9, pupils study art, drama, DT, English, French, geography, history, mathematics, physical education and religious studies, along with biology, chemistry and physics, and German and Spanish as optional second languages. Latin and music are also optional.
The school regularly organises trips to destinations like Peru, Canada and USA, France, Austria, Uganda and Borneo, giving pupils a taste of life in other cultures and societies.
Christian values underpin the school’s community life, and all pupils and staff, whether of Christian faith or not, are asked to respect them. Open Events for Worth School 13 Plus (13+) Entry
Open Days include talks from the Headmaster, pupils and senior staff, a pupil-led tour of the campus and informal chats with teaching staff over lunch. Booking is made via an online form.
Introduction Days are held in the Autumn Term. During these, your child will have the opportunity to attend classes, activities and sports, and meet other 13+ applicants.
Shadow Days are usually held in the Spring or Summer Term prior to entry. They take place on a typical day and include shadowing a ‘buddy’ pupil.
Private visits can be scheduled with the Admissions Team. They take place during the school working day and offer a chance for an individual meeting with the Headmaster, Housemasters/Housemistresses or other senior members of staff, as well as the Registrar.
Worth School 13 Plus (13+) Admissions
The admissions process begins with registration, made via an online Registration form available on the school’s website. The registration fee is £150.
After visiting the school and registering, your child will be asked to sit a computer-based Pretest, taken either at Worth or their current school in the Autumn/Spring Term of Year 6. Current-school references will also be requested. To confirm the place, your child will be expected to attend an interview and take part in small group tasks in March.
Worth School 13 Plus (13+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Offers are conditional on students passing the Common Entrance in Year 8. Exceptional candidates will be invited to sit scholarship assessments at this time instead. Scholarships are available to students demonstrating outstanding talent and ability in the spheres of Academic Study, Art, DT, Drama, Music and Sport Scholarship. The scholarship process, which includes taking separate assessments, can begin only if your child is registered with the school.
Your child may hold one or more awards concurrently, and a fee concession may be made where, during the assessment process, exceptional potential or need has been identified. The level of the fee discount can be augmented by means-tested bursary support.
Bursaries may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% of school fees, depending on your financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances. The ISEB Pretest examines your child’s ability in skills such as numeracy, problem solving and vocabulary, with emphasis on how they think and how they respond to the curriculum. The test includes modules testing maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
