Introduction
Woodford Green Preparatory School was founded in 1932 and is located in the London suburb of Woodford Green. Known locally as The Red School, it caters for a mixed cohort of approximately 375 pupils and adheres to the motto Let Each Flame Burn Brighter. [1]

Open Day at WGPS takes place in September, offering families a fantastic opportunity to learn firsthand about the school’s philosophy. Guided tours of facilities and meetings with key staff members are included in the event programme, hence you will be able to ask questions of interest to your child. Woodford Green Preparatory School (WGPS) 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
Due to the school’s popularity, early application is recommended. The formal deadline for submitting a registration form is in February of the calendar year of entry. Please note that the registration fee of £100 is non-refundable.
The entrance examinations are held later in the same month. On the day of the assessment, your child will also attend an interview. Results will be communicated in March. Please note that the school requires acceptance (of a place) to be confirmed within ten days.
Woodford Green Preparatory School 7 Plus (7+) Scholarships and Bursaries
WGPS offers assisted places to 7+ applicants. These are mean-tested and may cover up to 100% of fees, depending on your family’s financial circumstances.

Woodford Green Preparatory School (WGPS) 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The Woodford Green Preparatory School 7+ entrance exam consists of the following assessments:
- English comprehension (online)
- English writing (paper)
- Mathematics (online)
The English comprehension test is computer-based, examining inference, grammar and factual recollection, among other skills.
The English writing paper measures punctuation, spelling, good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The mathematics paper assesses mental arithmetic and general maths skills, including questions that assess the ability to apply mathematical reasoning and such that look into your child’s times tables recall and proficiency.
