Introduction
Wilson’s School is a grammar school for boys (with academy status) based in the London Borough of Sutton. A selective establishment, it has recently been ranked as the fourth highest performing school nationally (for GCSE results) by the Telegraph. [1]

Wilson’s Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Wilson’s Grammar School is part of Sutton’s Coordinated Admissions Scheme, where admission is solely determined by pupil performance in the Selective Eligibility Test (SET), similar to the standard 11 Plus exam.
With 180 places available in Year 7, the school encourages prospective students and their parents to attend one of its open events. During these events, families will learn more about the admissions process and have the opportunity to tour the school and speak to staff.
Schools within the Borough of Sutton are consistently oversubscribed, so in the likely event of there being more applications than there are places at Wilson’s School, the following oversubscription criteria are used, giving priority to:
- Looked after, or previously looked after, children by rank order of standardised school in the entrance tests
- Boys eligible for Free School Meals (up to 10 places) by rank order of standardised school in the entrance tests
- Any remaining places will be allocated to boys according to their position in the rank order of standardised score in the entrance tests

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Wilson’s Grammar School
Parents who wish to register their son to sit the SET (Part One) must complete a Supplementary Form, which can be found on the school’s website when registration is open.
The Common Application Form (CAF), issued by their Local Authority, must also be completed. Those who live in London or Surrey can complete the CAF online.
If students are successful in the SET, they will be invited to sit the Second Stage Entrance Examination. Should they pass this test, they must include Wilson’s School on the CAF to be eligible for consideration for a Year 7 place.

The school doesn’t have a catchment area. However, they do consider distance from the school in the case of determining an offer of a place where two or more candidates hold the same standardised score.
Wilson’s Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Wilson’s Grammar School 11 Plus exam is split into two stages:
- Stage 1: Maths and English, both multiple-choice and each last approximately 45 minutes.
This Selective Eligibility Test (SET) is run in conjunction with other grammar schools in Sutton. The result of the SET determines whether or not a boy is eligible for the second stage test.
- Stage 2: Maths and English. Neither of these is multiple-choice. Maths consists of standard format questions. The English paper is a Writing task, which requires a response to some form of prompt.
Wilson’s School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Pass Marks and Target Scores
There is no formal pass mark for the Wilson’s Grammar School 11+ tests. Instead, entry is relative to the performance of the cohort of applicants. Hence, if there are stronger candidates applying in a particular year, the pass mark will be higher.
Pupils who are able to score 75%+ consistently in our 11+ Stage 1 practice tests should be on track to pass the Wilson’s Grammar School Stage 1 exam.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me independent school papers?
The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.
Whilst Wilson’s Grammar School is a grammar school, they actually use the independent school (standard) format for their second round exam, which is why standard format papers are included in the Stage 2 recommendations above.
