Wetherby Senior School 11 Plus (11+) Entrance Exam Information – Key Details

Wetherby Senior School is an independent school for boys aged 2 to 8 located in Notting Hill, London. The pre-prep school was attended by Prince William and Prince Harry. It is part of the Alpha Plus Education Group and is a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools.

Wetherby Senior School was founded in 1951 as a pre-preparatory school for boys aged 4-8. It wasn’t until 2004 that the school began allowing boys to stay on until the age of 13.

The school’s original building was constructed in about 1850 and was located in Wetherby Place in South Kensington. It moved to its present building on the south side of Pembridge Square, on the other side of Kensington Gardens in 1971.

Wetherby Senior School is known to provide an outstanding, progressive all-round education, fully preparing pupils to meet the challenges of British life and contribute to local communities.

The school’s diverse community respects and celebrates differences, emphasizing curiosity, independence of mind, imagination and self-reliance.

Wetherby Senior School’s aim is to instill in pupils an understanding that the right effort put into education leads to excellent progress, and is strongly aligned with the idea that everyone has the potential for personal and academic growth.

Teaching, supported by excellent resources, enables pupils to attain high levels of academic achievement whilst maintaining a focus on pastoral care.

Each student at Wetherby Senior has a Form Tutor and he or she is the pupil’s main point of contact. The Form Tutor is responsible for the supervision, guidance and care of the pupils in their tutor group, meeting them every morning for registration at 8.25 a.m.

The Year 7 curriculum includes English, maths, biology, chemistry, physics, French, history, geography, drama, art & design, music, philosophy, IT, learning skills, PE and PSHE.

The curriculum is underpinned by the Growth Mindset, a learning philosophy centred on the belief that a person’s talent, ability and performance can be improved by developing self-awareness and self-challenge.

The school offers a variety of optional academic and co-curricular trips for the boys. As part of the PSHE programme, the school regularly invites guest speakers to give talks and presentations on a wide variety of subjects.
