West Buckland School is an independent school in West Buckland, Devon. Founded in 1858 to provide a public school education for the sons of farmers and the middle class, West Buckland was one of eight schools shortlisted for ‘Boarding School of the Year’ in the recent TES Independent School Awards.

If you wish your child to be considered for Year 7 entry, you should register them via the registration form available on the school’s website. They will then be expected to sit entrance examinations in the form of computer-based standardised tests. The date of the exam should be scheduled with Admissions. Results will be posted to you within one month of assessments.
The school will also evaluate your child on the basis of an interview with the Headmaster and a current-school report.
Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Headmaster. At 11+, the school offers Academic, Music and Sport Scholarships. Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of your child’s results in the standardised tests, a current-school report and an interview with the Headmaster.
A scholarship can be coupled with a means tested bursary if further assistance is needed.
Means Tested Bursaries are awarded if it’s determined that you would otherwise not be able to afford to send your child to West Buckland School. If your child meets the school’s entry requirements, the evaluation proceeds with means-testing which includes a confidential statement of financial circumstances.
