Introduction

West Buckland School is an independent school in West Buckland, Devon. Founded in 1858 to provide a public school education for the sons of farmers and the middle class, West Buckland was one of eight schools shortlisted for ‘Boarding School of the Year’ in the recent TES Independent School Awards.

In Year 7, pupils study mathematics, English, French, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, history, religious studies, art, design & technology, drama, food & nutrition, information technology, music, PE & games.

The wide range of extra curricular activities offer pupils a huge selection to choose from, including Chess Club, Gymnastics, Art Club, Book Club, Choirs, Orchestras, Dance, Swimming Club, Badminton, Writing Club and many more.

The school aims to make a difference in pupils’ lives by encouraging them to question, analyse and evaluate their surroundings in order to better understand the world they live in. Fostering their resilience, integrity and strength of character within an inclusive community firmly grounded in Christian values, West Buckland teaches pupils to maximise their own and others’ potential, and challenge the status quo in their adult years.
