Introduction

Wallington High School for Girls is a selective grammar school in the London Borough of Sutton. Established in 1888, it specialises in STEM subjects and languages, educating approximately 1300 pupils in line with the motto Heirs of the past, Makers of the future. [1]

At Wallington High, girls are challenged to perform to the best of their ability. The school thus provides them with a broad curriculum, including MFL, computing, art, mathematics, humanities and a number of other disciplines relevant to contemporary existence. [2]

Wallington High also offers a plethora of extracurricular options to choose from. Dance, CCF, hockey, Sustainability Society, LAMDA, crafts and Medical Society are just a few to mention, allowing girls to access a wealth of opportunities for success and growth, which, quite often, inspire their future professional and personal endeavours. Wallington High School for Girls 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

Wallington High School for Girls is part of Sutton’s Coordinated Admissions Scheme, hence admission to the school is determined by pupil performance in the Selective Eligibility Test (SET), similar to the standard 11 Plus exam.

There is huge competition for the 210 Year 7 places, so prospective students and their parents are actively encouraged to attend an open event before applying for a place. The event will provide prospective families with the opportunity to learn about the admissions process and tour the school’s facilities, as well as meet the Head.

It is likely that WHSG will be oversubscribed for places. In such cases, the school applies the following criteria, giving priority to:

  1. Looked after and previously looked after children
  2. Students in receipt of the Pupil Premium
  3. Students in highest rank order according to their predicted Average Point Score

More details about the admissions process are available in WHSG’s admission policy. You can view the school’s exact location on the map below:

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Wallington High School for Girls

Parents who wish to register their daughter to sit the SET (part one) must complete a Supplementary Form, which can be found on the school’s website when registration opens.

To apply for a place at the school, parents must complete the Common Application Form (CAF) issued by their Local Authority. Those who live in London, or Surrey, can complete the CAF online.

If students are successful in the SET, they will be invited to sit WHSG’s second stage exam. Should they pass this test, parents must include the school on the CAF for pupils to be eligible for consideration of a Year 7 place.

Wallington High School for Girls Catchment Area

Does Wallington High School for Girls have a catchment area?

Yes, they do. For Wallington High School for Girls, the catchment area is within a 6.7 km radius of the school’s building main entrance.

Wallington High School for Girls 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

Wallington High School for Girls’ 11+ Exam is split into two stages:

Stage 1 – Maths and English, both multiple-choice and each lasting approximately 45 minutes.

This Selective Eligibility Test is run in conjunction with other local schools in the Borough of Sutton. The result of the SET determines whether or not a student is eligible for the second stage test.

Stage 2 – Maths and English. Neither of these is multiple-choice. Maths consists of standard format questions. The English paper is a Writing task, which requires a response to some form of prompt.

At WHSG, the final rank order is determined by the aggregate scores of the SET and the two parts of the second test in the ratio of 1:1:1. This means it is equally weighted across subjects.

What is the NWSSEE?

NWSSEE is short for Wallington Girls’ School and Nonsuch Second Stage Entrance Examination and means the same as the term Stage 2 examClick here to learn more.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me independent school papers?

The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.

Whilst Wallington High School for Girls is a grammar school, they actually use the independent school (standard) format for their second round exam, which is why standard format papers are included in the Stage 2 recommendations above.
