Introduction
Truro School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in the city of Truro, Cornwall. Founded by Wesleyan Methodists in November 1879, the school is the largest co-educational independent school in the county.
In Year 7, pupils study art, biology, chemistry, computer science and ICT, drama, English, geography, history, mathematics, MFL, physics, physical education and religious studies.
Within the co-curricular programme, there are over 70 clubs on offer, ranging from Swimming, Book Club, Fishing and Cookery to Chess, Computer Programming, Robotics and Astronomy.
The school aims to develop pupils’ academic excellence at all levels by enabling them to become independent learners whose talents and abilities are cultivated within a safe and caring environment. As a result, Truronians leave school equipped with essential life skills and lasting ambition, fully prepared for the competitive nature of modern life.

Open Mornings provide families with the opportunity to visit each department via a pupil-led tour and hear a short address from the Head, as well as ask questions of interest to their child over refreshments. Truro School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The admissions process begins with registration. To apply for Year 7 entry, you should complete and return the registration form available on the website and pay the registration fee (£100). Your child will then be invited to sit entrance examinations, held in January.
All applicants will be interviewed by the Head or Director of Admissions during the Autumn/Spring Term, prior to the entrance exams. A current-school reference regarding their academic ability and co-curricular involvement will be requested.
To accept an offer of a place, you will be asked to sign an acceptance form and pay the £500 deposit. This amount will be refunded during your child’s last term at Truro School.
Truro School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
At 11+, Truro School awards Academic, Art, Drama, Fencing, Music and Sports scholarships. Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance in the entrance examination and interview, whilst the others are awarded on the basis of additional appropriate assessments and/or auditions.
The school also provides financial support (means-tested bursaries) to families who can’t afford to pay the fees. Applying includes completion of a financial declaration form and an interview with the Head or Director of Admissions, taking place prior to the entrance examination.

Truro School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Truro School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- English
- Mathematics
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
