Introduction
Founded in 1528, The King’s School is located in the Lincolnshire market town of Grantham. It has academy status and is an all-boys’ grammar school, catering to around 1,000 pupils split across six houses. It is also noted for educating the distinguished scientist Isaac Newton between 1655 and 1659. [1]
King’s wide-ranging curriculum aims to assist pupils’ intellectual and cognitive development. As such, it features sciences, technology, languages, mathematics and many other disciplines, reflecting the school’s commitment to high academic standards.
Enrichment activities maximise the cohort’s educational potential through mainly non-academic pursuits. Typically ranging from orchestra, CCF and Young Enterprise Club to cricket, football and drama, the programme helps boost the vigorous qualities of school life, underpinning its lively character. [2]
The driving force behind all endeavours at King’s is honour, steering everyone towards acting in the best interest of all. Mutual respect and consideration are seen as vital to character development, producing agile learners and progressive thinkers who approach interactions with courtesy.
The pastoral care provision supports King’s genuinely holistic approach to education, recognising that academic success and personal wellbeing are intrinsically linked. Accordingly, the school provides a nurturing and supportive environment that caters to the unique needs of every student through forward-looking practices, cultivating the cohort’s resilience, empathy and self-discipline in the process.

The 11 Plus Exam at The King’s School, Grantham, consists of two tests:
⦿ Verbal Reasoning
These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.
⦿ Non-Verbal Reasoning/Spatial Reasoning
The Lincolnshire 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.
The Spatial Reasoning sections in the Lincolnshire 11 Plus Exam are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.
