Introduction
The King’s School, Chester, is a co-educational independent school in Chester. It is one of the seven ‘King’s Schools’ established by King Henry VIII in 1541 after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. [1]
In the Junior School, the curriculum is designed to be inspiring, allowing children to thrive in areas such as English, maths, science, humanities, MFL, art and PE.
The impressive number of extracurricular clubs and activities includes everything from Badminton, Fencing and Yoga to Programming, Gardening and Chess Club. To experience the welcoming atmosphere on campus, you and your child should attend the school’s open events. These will allow you to meet key members of staff and current pupils. You will also be able to tour the facilities. In addition to the open events, you can schedule an individual appointment via the Admissions Office.

Following the visit, you may wish to register your child with King’s Chester. The online form should be submitted together with a registration fee of £50.
Your child will be admitted on the basis of their results in entrance examinations and the quality of their current-school references. If they receive a formal offer, you will be asked to accept it by completing an acceptance form and paying a refundable deposit.

The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and their oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
