The Cathedral School is an academically selective, independent, coeducational cathedral school that welcomes pupils from all backgrounds who will benefit from the academic education provided whilst contributing to the school’s community.
Entry is based on examinations and interview. Applications should be submitted during the Autumn Term in the year before entry (Year 6). The school will then request a detailed report from your child’s current school, followed by an interview which takes place prior to the entry examinations. During the interview, the staff will explore your child’s intellectual curiosity and their co-curricular interests and talents, as well as their interpersonal skills.
After the entrance examinations, your child may be offered a place, or they may be put on the waiting list.
Scholarships are awarded for the duration of the child’s time in the Senior School, from Year 7
to Year 11. They are reviewed annually and may be withdrawn if the child is not performing at the level expected of a scholar.
If you child scores highly in the academic examination, they will be invited for a General Academic Scholarship interview with the Head/Deputy Head. They will also attend academic interviews with the Heads of English and Mathematics or their deputies.
Music, All-Rounder (Drama, Music and Art) and Sport scholarships can only be awarded to candidates who have passed the entrance assessments.
The school offers bursaries after the Bursar advises on financial aspects concerning the award of bursaries and scholarships.
