Introduction
The Cathedral School is an independent co-educational school located in Llandaff, a district north of the Welsh capital Cardiff. The school is known for its individualised approach towards educating children who thrive within a mutually respectful and supportive environment.

Open Events for The Cathedral School, Llandaff 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Open Days include a talk from the Head, followed by pupil-guided tours of the school which end with refreshments. The Senior Open morning is set in March, whilst the Whole School Open Morning takes place in October.
The school also organises an Information Afternoon for Year 7 entry in November. If you are unable to attend any of these dates, reach out to the Registrar to arrange an individual tour at a mutually convenient time.

The Cathedral School, Llandaff 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
The Cathedral School is an academically selective, independent, coeducational cathedral school that welcomes pupils from all backgrounds who will benefit from the academic education provided whilst contributing to the school’s community.
Entry is based on examinations and interview. Applications should be submitted during the Autumn Term in the year before entry (Year 6). The school will then request a detailed report from your child’s current school, followed by an interview which takes place prior to the entry examinations. During the interview, the staff will explore your child’s intellectual curiosity and their co-curricular interests and talents, as well as their interpersonal skills.
After the entrance examinations, your child may be offered a place, or they may be put on the waiting list.
The Cathedral School, Llandaff 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are awarded for the duration of the child’s time in the Senior School, from Year 7 to Year 11. They are reviewed annually and may be withdrawn if the child is not performing at the level expected of a scholar.
If you child scores highly in the academic examination, they will be invited for a General Academic Scholarship interview with the Head/Deputy Head. They will also attend academic interviews with the Heads of English and Mathematics or their deputies.
Music, All-Rounder (Drama, Music and Art) and Sport scholarships can only be awarded to candidates who have passed the entrance assessments.
The school offers bursaries after the Bursar advises on financial aspects concerning the award of bursaries and scholarships.

The Cathedral School Llandaff Year 7 entrance examination consists of:
- An online test (CEM Select)
- An English paper
CEM Select is an online assessment which examines your child’s skills in Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Reasoning. The test is appropriate to their age and year of entry.
The English paper consists of a comprehension exercise and a piece of descriptive writing, assessing spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
