Introduction

Talbot Heath School is an independent day and boarding school for girls based in Talbot Woods, Bournemouth. It was established in 1886 as a Church of England school and it is a relatively small facility, catering for approximately 550 pupils. [1]

Regardless of its size, Talbot Heath produces competitive examination results. This is mainly due to the extensive teaching provision and comprehensive pastoral care, tailored to meet pupils’ individual needs and requirements.

Girls study English, humanities, mathematics, MFL, science and Classics, among others, and benefit from an overarching programme of extracurriculars including Podcast Club, lacrosse, rugby, Newspaper Club and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Through DofE Award activities, pupils grow in resilience and a healthy competitive spirit, maximising their sense of responsibility and organisational skills at the same time.

Talbot Heath insists that girls develop strong personalities, yet actively encourages them to participate in community service and charity events in order to boost their altruistic qualities and ability to empathise. The school also invests in providing students with plenty of opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, thus it recently opened the cutting-edge STEAM hub for this purpose. [2]

In line with the motto ‘Honour Before Honours’, Talbot Heath produces considerate and academically strong individuals who proceed to use their knowledge for the benefit of their intermediate communities. As such, the school places high value on collaborative effort, allowing girls to forge friendships and grow in confidence while celebrating their own successes alongside the successes of peers.
