Introduction
Stonyhurst College is a coeducational independent school in Lancashire. Founded in 1593, the school occupies a Grade I listed building and follows the Jesuit tradition.
The Stonyhurst Prep (St Mary’s Hall) curriculum is rich and varied, ensuring that pupils are academically challenged. Besides the core subjects, Year 7 pupils have the opportunity to choose from several languages (French, Spanish, German and Latin).
Numerous exciting after-class activities take place in the school’s many new and refurbished facilities. St. Mary’s Hall owns a fully-equipped sports hall, outside tennis and netball courts, rugby, cricket, rounders & athletics fields, a water-based Astroturf pitch, a heated indoor swimming pool and a 9-hole golf course.
With emphasis on both prayer and service, Roman Catholicism is central to school life, however, pupils of other faiths, and those with none at all, are also considered a vital part of the school’s community. Stonyhurst alumni include a Peruvian president, a Bolivian president, a New Zealand prime minister, a signatory of the American Declaration of Independence and a number of writers, sportsmen and politicians.
In line with the motto As much as I can, the school prepares children for an adulthood in which they will use their talents, knowledge and skills to improve the world around them.
