Located in Northwood, North West London, St Helen’s School was founded in 1899 as an independent day school for girls aged 3 to 18. The school is split across an expansive 22-acre greenfield site. The Senior school, Junior School and Little Saints School occupy separate buildings within the site with their own specialised facilities.
The school has operated a house system since 1927 and today, there are four houses: Scott, Shackleton, Bruce and Bonington. Each year, the House Cup is awarded to the house with the most points, which can be earned through commendations, Sports Day, House Arts and other achievements.
St Helen’s School has a number of entry points: 3+ (Nursery), 4+ (Reception), 7+ (Year 3), 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Year 12). For Year 3 entry, all girls sit examination papers in English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
For a full overview of all entry points at St Helen’s, visit the school website.
Registration: Parents are advised to apply by the end of October/early November of the early preceding entry. The registration form can be downloaded from the school’s website and returned alongside a non-refundable fee of £100.
Open Days/Visits: St Helen’s School offers parents and prospective pupils the opportunity to attend either an Open Event, or take an individual tour. At the Open Event, parents can meet senior staff and current pupils and take a tour of the school’s extensive campus. There is no need to book in advance for these events.
To book an individual visit, please contact admissions on 01923 843230.
Entrance Exams: St Helen’s School’s 7 plus exam takes place in January. All candidates will sit exam papers in English, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning. They will also take part in small group activities. Those shortlisted will be invited back for an individual interview with the Head of the Prep School.

On the day of the 7+ exam, girls will spend the whole day at St Helen’s School. After the exam is complete, pupils will be divided into small groups to participate in a number of activities. They will be observed by teachers to see how they handle themselves in group situations with set tasks. Once shortlisting has taken place, a number of girls will be invited back for an individual interview with the Head of the Prep School.
In most cases, girls move on to St Helen’s Senior School at 11+. The school also prepares pupils for transfer to other senior schools at 11 Plus level.
Other Entry Points: 3+ (Nursery), 4+ (Reception), 11+ (Year 7) and 16+ (Year 12).
