Introduction

Sir William Perkin’s School (SWPS) is an independent day school for girls aged 11–18. It takes its name from the wealthy merchant who founded the school in 1725 to provide an education for children of Chertsey, an ancient market town in the Runnymede borough of Surrey. The school moved to its present site on Guildford Road in Chertsey 1819 and became fully independent in 1978.

Although SWPS has occupied its present green-belt site for nearly 200 years, an ongoing programme of development means that it has some excellent, purpose-built modern facilities. These include a sports centre and boat club, with fitness, dance and rowing studios, and fully-equipped, dedicated spaces for art and design, ICT, science, languages and the performing arts.

The school offers a broad curriculum and focuses on academic success. However, it also encourages students to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities to help develop other life skills, such as teamwork and leadership.
