Sherborne School for Girls, better known as Sherborne Girls, is an independent day and boarding school for girls, located in Sherborne, North Dorset. The school won the title ‘Best Public School of The Year’ at the recent Tatler Schools Awards.

To visit the school, you should book a spot for the Tour Morning event or arrange an individual visit. In both cases, you will have the opportunity to tour the school and meet with senior members of staff.
Tour Mornings take place in November. Individual visits are scheduled with the Registrar.
Sherborne Girls 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your daughter with the school, you should complete the Registration Form and return it to the Admissions Office along with a payment of a £200 registration fee. The school recommends that you register by the end of Year 5.
Your daughter will then be invited to sit entrance examinations and attend interviews. Entry can be gained through the following routes:
- Common Entrance
- Sherborne Girls Entrance Examination, or
- Scholarship Examinations.
A reference from your daughter’s current school will also be requested.
To accept an offer of a place, you will be expected to complete an Acceptance form and pay a £2000 deposit, which reserves a place at the school.
Sherborne Girls 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Academic Scholarships can be offered as major awards of up to £3000 per year, and minor awards, made of up to £1500.
All-rounder Awards carry a £3000 fee remission. These are awarded to applicants who demonstrate strengths in more than one scholarship area. Candidates who apply for two scholarship categories in addition to Academic will automatically be considered for an All-rounder Award.
Note that the school typically doesn’t award more than one scholarship.
Art Scholarships carry a value of up to £3000 per annum and are awarded on the basis of a digital portfolio.
Music awards are also up to a maximum of £3000 per annum. The school places great emphasis on this field and awards Scholarships or Exhibitions to girls who demonstrate real potential.
There are also Sports and Drama Scholarships, both valued at up to a maximum of £3000 per annum.
Bursaries can be coupled with Scholarships, significantly raising the amount of the award. Bursaries are means-tested and reviewed annually. Sherborne Girls 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format | Entrance Examination Route
If you decide to take the Sherborne Girls Entrance Examination route, your daughter will sit an 11+ exam consisting of:
- English paper
- Mathematics paper
- Online test: CEM Select
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your daughter’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The online test (CEM Select) assesses Verbal, Non-Verbal and Numerical Ability through a series of short, online modules.
