In Senior School, pupils take lessons in art, biology, business studies, chemistry, drama, economics, English, geography, history, computer science, mathematics, media studies, MFL, music, physical education, physics, PSHE, psychology and religious studies.
Aside from an array of exciting and challenging after-class activities, the school also offers a number of enrichment trips within the UK and abroad. Barbados and St. Lucia are among the favourite destinations, where pupils get to play competitive cricket, netball and football against other schools and clubs.
Every couple of years, students and staff undertake a two-week cultural exchange to Uganda, where they visit charities such as Kira Farm, responsible for the vocational education of local students, and Katosi Women Development Trust, dedicated to empowering women.

Open Events for Shebbear College 11 plus (11+) Entry
Open Events provide families with an ideal opportunity to experience the school ‘in action’. They include a tour of the school, during which you can speak to teachers and current pupils, followed by a meeting with the Head. There will be refreshments.

Shebbear College 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register with the school, you should complete a registration form and pay a non-refundable registration fee. An offer is accepted when the acceptance form is completed and a deposit, securing the child’s place at the school, is paid.
The admissions process includes a meeting (interview) with the Headmaster of the College. A reference from your child’s current school will also be requested.
Typically, the school sends the child an invite for a short trial period (usually two days), which includes a number of informal and formal assessments.
The official entrance examinations take place in January of Year 6.
Shebbear College 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarship Assessments for Year 7 entry are also set to take place in January. The school awards Academic, Sports, Drama and Art Scholarships. Academic awards are offered to top-performing candidates in the entrance examinations.
Drama Scholarships are offered following an audition, typically lasting 20–25 mins. Art Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a portfolio and a still life sketch, made within 30 mins.
Music Scholarships are awarded to instrumentalists and singers with exceptional talent/ability who satisfy a minimum standard Grade 3.
Athletic and talented pupils who can make a significant contribution to the range of sports on offer at Shebbear College will be considered for a Sports Scholarship.

Shebbear College 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Shebbear College 11+ exam consists of the following papers:
- Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
