Introduction

Shebbear College is a co-educational, independent school located in Devon. It was established by the Bible Christian Society in 1829 and is among the world’s oldest Methodist schools. [1]

In Senior School, pupils take lessons in art, biology, business studies, chemistry, drama, economics, English, geography, history, computer science, mathematics, media studies, MFL, music, physical education, physics, PSHE, psychology and religious studies.

Aside from an array of exciting and challenging after-class activities, the school also offers a number of enrichment trips within the UK and abroad. Barbados and St. Lucia are among the favourite destinations, where pupils get to play competitive cricket, netball and football against other schools and clubs.

Every couple of years, students and staff undertake a two-week cultural exchange to Uganda, where they visit charities such as Kira Farm, responsible for the vocational education of local students, and Katosi Women Development Trust, dedicated to empowering women.

Shebbear’s ethos is grounded in traditional values, which form an essential part of the school’s efforts to build pupils’ self-discipline and character. By growing in awareness about the world and learning about responsibility and respect, Shebbearians approach adulthood with the skills and ability to adapt to whatever changes the future may bring.
