Introduction

 

Sedbergh School is a co-educational independent boarding school in Cumbria. It was established in 1525 and is currently settled in a magnificent location amongst the fells, bordering the River Lune.

 

In Prep School, pupils study art, computer science, English, French, geography, history, Latin, maths, religious studies and science. 

 

Beyond the classroom, pupils benefit from an impressive extracurricular programme which includes over 20 sports activities, including sailing, fell walking, climbing, horse riding and ghyll scrambling. In addition, the Prep School hosts a number of academic societies, poetry readings and debating competitions along with clubs such as Chess, Archaeology and Conservation.

Open Events for Sedbergh Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Entry

 

Open Morning takes place in February, providing families with an opportunity to take a pupil-led tour of the school and meet the Head and other members of staff.

 

If you are interested in a boarding place for your child, you will have the opportunity to visit the Boarding Houses and meet the Houseparents. To register your attendance, you should fill in an online form available on the school’s website.

Sedbergh Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

Upon visiting the school on an Open Day, your child will be expected to spend a Taster Day with their year group. During the session, they will sit examinations. There will also be an interview with a senior member of staff.

 

To formalise your application, you should register your child for Year 7 entry. Registration forms can be obtained from the Admissions Team. A copy of your child’s most recent school report should be submitted alongside the form. The registration fee of £125 is non-refundable. 

 

Sedbergh Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

The school offers a limited amount of scholarship awards to talented boys and girls entering Preparatory School at 11+. They fall into the following categories: Academic, Art, Design, Technology & Engineering, Drama, Music and Sport.

 

To apply for a Scholarship Award, you should complete a form available on the school’s website and return it to the Admissions Team. 

 

The school offers bursary funding to families who can’t afford to send their child to Sedbergh. If you wish to apply for a bursary, you should reach out to the Bursar following registration. Note that funds are limited and, therefore, bursaries are distributed on the basis of a wide range of criteria, not just financial, such as the following:

 

  • The child has siblings at the School;
  • The child has relevant needs (e.g. may be suffering from bullying at their present school);
  • The parent/guardian is terminally ill or in poor health;
  • The child suffers from stress due to the separation of parents/guardians.

Sedbergh Prep School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

 

The Sedbergh School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following assessment:

 

  • MidYIS (similar to CEM Select)

 

MidYIS is an online assessment, which, much like CEM Select, assesses Verbal, Non-Verbal and Numerical Reasoning. Both tests are provided by CEM.
