Introduction
Rishworth School is a co-educational, independent school near Halifax, in West Yorkshire. Founded and endowed by John Wheelwright in 1724, the school received the highest grading of ‘Excellent’ in the ISI’s latest inspection. [1]
Pupils study mathematics, English, science, art & design, business, computer science, DT, drama, food preparation & nutrition, MFL, geography, history, music, PE and psychology.
After classes, they get to choose from 30-40 co-curricular clubs and activities, ranging from “Project Green” Gardening Club and Debating to Film Club and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Rishworth’s magnificent buildings and extensive grounds further contribute to the relaxed atmosphere where the balanced development of children is a priority. Rishworth School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child with the school, you’ll be expected to submit a registration form along with a fee of £95. Entry is dependent upon performance in entrance examinations, interview and/or a satisfactory report from your child’s current school.
The 11+ exam is held in November of the year preceding entry.
Rishworth School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The school offers Academic, Sport, Performance Arts and Creative Arts Scholarships. The Wheelwright Scholarship is an academic award offered to pupils who perform exceptionally well in the entrance examinations. It can be coupled with a Bursary and cover 100% of fees.
Other Academic Scholarships, based on performance in the 11+ exam, may be awarded at the discretion of the Head. Recipients of such academic scholarships may also apply for a Bursary.
Scholarships for excellence in the areas of Sport, Performing Arts and Creative Arts are awarded following an assessment or audition. For details on how to apply, please reach out to the Registrar.

Rishworth School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Rishworth School 11+ exam consists of the following papers:
- English
- Mathematics
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
