Introduction

Founded in 1969, Queens’ School is a partially selective, co-educational secondary school with academy status. The school specialises in sports and science and educates roughly 1700 pupils, producing excellent examination results that are far above the national average. [1]

The so-called Star curriculum at Queens’ is overarching, allowing students to excel across a range of academic and non-academic areas. Engaging and methodically planned lessons instil in pupils skills for life, whether that be in the domain of languages, sciences, technology or mathematics.

The extracurricular provision features a rich range of fun opportunities, including expeditions to the exotic Taiwan and Zambia. Rugby, football, hockey, cricket, basketball and tennis are just some of the sporting activities on offer, fostering physical development at an admirable rate by enabling students to enhance their athletic prowess. [2]

The lush woodland occupying Queens’ setting offers ideal conditions for valuable outdoor learning experiences. Very recently, members of the school community planted over 200 trees with the aim of creating inspiring and stimulating learning environments for students in the future. [3]

Queens’ joint efforts, ethos and educational philosophy all align with four key values: Scholarship, Tenacity, Altruism and Respect. The school promotes in students a sense of responsibility and integrity, inspiring them to take initiative and to endeavour to make a positive impact through their actions.

Pastoral staff provide immediate attention, direction and support, allowing the cohort to grow in genuine understanding of their own emotional and mental strengths. In this way, the school ensures that the community is pervaded by a sense of harmony, affecting social interactions in positive, productive and proactive ways.
