Introduction

Parmiter’s School is a co-educational state school with academy status in Garston, Hertfordshire. A partially selective institution, Parmiter’s educates around 1450 students and is considered one of the highest-performing mixed-ability schools in the country. [1]

The curriculum comprises the core subjects of English, mathematics, science and MFL, enhanced by a number of specialist subjects, including computer science, economics & business, music and drama. Lessons are well-structured and targeted, allowing students to recognise their strengths and minimise their weaknesses.

The rich range of extracurriculars supports the relevant offering, allowing pupils to interact with peers and engage in experiential learning. Choosing from FemSoc, ‘Book to Film’ Cinema, touch typing, DofE, choir, orchestra and many other options, the cohort maximises their non-academic development in parallel with their social skills. [2]

Parmiter’s ethos is driven by the relentless pursuit of excellence in all on-site endeavours. Staff aim to provide a comprehensive education tailored to empower each student to reach their full potential and optimise their unique abilities, cultivating a healthy and happy environment that fosters a passion for learning.

Respect for individuality and diversity is deeply ingrained in the school community. A strong emphasis is placed on nurturing social responsibility alongside personal and spiritual growth, instilling integrity, confidence, resilience and creativity in students. Most recent GCSE results reflect the school’s successful strategy in meeting pupils’ educational expectations, as 62% of all GCSE entries were grades 9-7. [3]
