Introduction

Bolton School is an independent day school in Bolton, Greater Manchester. With almost 2,400 pupils, it is one of the largest independent day schools in the country.

Bolton School (Senior) has Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions. The construction of the Boys’ Division and Girls’ Division buildings began in 1924, and their main wings were completed in 1965.

At Bolton School, both girls and boys feel cherished, understood and secure whilst educated in a friendly and respectful, single-sex environment. In such an environment, students forge strong friendships that support and sustain them throughout their lives.

Boys and girls get to know each other through mutual participation in the extra-curricular programme, comprising over 100 clubs and activities in addition to orchestras, choirs and sports teams. The superb facilities, exceptional range of extra-curricular activities and the variety of community action programmes, ensure that pupils approach adulthood with skills, virtues and traits of immense value to them and others.

The curriculum in the Senior Schools is designed to provide pupils with the ability to pursue academic excellence, whilst ensuring both breadth and depth of understanding. It allows the possibility of two or more foreign languages to be taken through to GCSE, offers a wide choice of 4 AS subjects, as well as three science subjects as separate disciplines at GCSE.

By combining traditional academic rigour with opportunities for self-expression and creativity, students at Bolton School are provided with a high-quality education, characterised by strong numeracy and communication abilities and dextrous technological skills.

Bolton School enrolls children from a wide range of nursery, primary and secondary schools and from many different social and cultural backgrounds. All of them are provided with equal opportunities to reach their full potential, achieve the highest grades possible at A level and build a rich and diverse CV that will help them progress to the university or career of their choice.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me grammar school papers?

The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.

Whilst Bolton School is an independent school, they actually use the grammar school (multiple-choice) format for some of their exams, which is why they are included in the recommendations above.

Our practice tests aim to show what sort of questions were included in Bolton School 11+ exam past papers. The information provided about Bolton School was believed to be correct at the time of publishing. However, please be aware of future changes. We advise you to contact the school directly if you are unsure of anything. School contact details are provided within the post.
