Reigate Grammar School (RGS) is an independent day school, which educates children aged 11–18. The school is situated on the edge of the market town of Reigate, at the foot of the North Downs in Surrey, and its emblem shows the town’s medieval castle. The school has been fully coeducational since 1993 and works in close partnership with Reigate St. Mary’s Preparatory and Choir School (Ages 2–11) and Chinthurst School, Tadworth (Ages 2–11).
Reigate Grammar School has had strong links with St Mary’s Church in Reigate since 1684, when the vicar of Reigate was appointed headmaster of the new school, and this foundation is reflected in the school’s predominantly Christian ethos, with regular assemblies being held in the church. However, the school is non-denominational and welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds.
The school states that its ‘core priority is to care for each individual child and nurture their unique blend of talents and abilities’. To this end, it offers a broad and flexible curriculum, with a unique programme of electives that includes subjects such as forensic science, share trading, Japanese and sculpture. There is also a large selection of extra-curricular clubs and activities available, and pastoral care and learning support is personalised to support the specific needs of individual students.
In 2018, 81.5% of RGS GCSE entries were graded 9–7 (A*–A) and over 85% of students achieved five or more of these top grades.
The school has some excellent facilities and the most recent additions include an indoor swimming pool, purpose-built teaching spaces for the sciences and humanities and the Harrison Centre, which houses a new sixth form centre, a library and resource centre, plus private study areas and collaborative learning spaces.
