Introduction
Queen’s College is an independent school for girls in the City of Westminster, London. Founded in 1848, it is considered the first institution in the world to award academic qualifications to women and is also the first girls’ school to be granted a Royal Charter. The Prep School was opened by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 2002. [1]
In line with its rich history, the school offers a broad range of traditional subjects, successfully blending them with progressive, cutting-edge disciplines. The curriculum covers art, computer science, English, geography, history, languages, mathematics, music, PE, religious education and science.
Co-curricular activities include over 150 weekly music lessons for instruments such as guitar, piano, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar, saxophone, viola and violin. These are taught by experienced and qualified staff in five new, purpose-built music teaching rooms.
Committed to outdoor education, the school has developed a comprehensive programme of pursuits to increase pupils’ environmental awareness. As a result, Queen’s College Prep has been awarded The Woodland Trust’s prestigious Green Tree Schools Award at bronze, silver and gold levels.
Ensuring the full development of each girl, the school encourages academic excellence, but not only for the sake of good marks. Namely, QCPS heavily invests in educating girls on ‘how to think, rather than what to think’, valuing their personal integrity and intellectual rigour above everything else, along with their capacity and willingness to contribute to the harmonious atmosphere on campus.

Open Mornings offer prospective families the perfect opportunity to explore the school’s grounds and learn more about the admissions process. During these, you will meet current pupils and staff members, as well as hear from the Headmistress. Spots for the events can be booked here.
Queen’s College Preparatory School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
Early registration is strongly encouraged by the school. The application deadline is in early December preceding the year of entry. The registration form, which can be found here, should be submitted along with a £100 non-refundable fee.
You will then be invited to meet the Headmistress for a private appointment, whilst your daughter will be invited to sit formal assessments.
Offers are sent out in January, following the exams which take place earlier the same month. To secure the place, you will be asked to pay a deposit.
Queen’s College Preparatory School 7 Plus (7+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are not available to 7+ applicants, but the school does offer means-tested bursaries. Following independent financial assessments, these are awarded to families who are unable to financially support their daughter’s education at QCPS. Queen’s College Preparatory School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The QCPS 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Mathematics
- Critical Thinking
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills including spelling, punctuation and grammar.
The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including her knowledge of times tables.
The Critical Thinking section of the exam is designed to assess the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
