Introduction
Founded in 1848, Queen’s College is an independent day school for girls in London. It boasts a rich history, as it is the first girls’ school to be granted a Royal Charter for the advancement of women’s education. Featuring a liberal ethos, it is also the first school in the world to award academic qualifications to women. [1]
Queen’s places great value on academic excellence, understood in a much broader sense than just producing good examination results. As such, the school is fully invested in pupils’ rounded development, actively encouraging intellectual rigour and meticulous exploration of a range of disciplines, including humanities, languages, technology and mathematics.
Catering for emerging interests as a rule, Queen’s broadly addresses girls’ needs for interaction with peers within a more relaxed learning environment. Thus, it offers a varied extracurricular programme, encompassing Feminist Society, gardening, chess, Taekwondo, Brass Ensemble, debating and an array of further activities. [2]
Queen’s leavers frequently access their first choice of university, including Oxbridge and Russell Group, thriving within the new setting thanks to their high levels of academic and social versatility. Independent and self-reliant, they exceed expectations and courageously take risks that secure their growth, developing strong character without suppressing their imagination in the process.
