Introduction
Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school in Thorpe Underwood, northwest of York. Set in over 220 acres of beautiful countryside, Queen Ethelburga’s educates and supports children through four schools: Chapter House, King’s Magna, The College and The Faculty.
King’s Magna is the middle school, where pupils from Years 6 – 9 study English, maths, science, humanities, MFL, sports, social sciences and performing arts. Beyond the classroom, they can take part in any of the 100+ enrichment activities on offer, and further expand their horizons via life-changing expeditions to Spain, Croatia, Italy, USA (the Grand Canyon) and Zambia.

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate | King’s Magna 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Admission to King’s Magna is dependent upon an interview with a relevant member of staff, current-school reports and performance in the entrance test. Please note that, in order to be processed, the registration form should be submitted with a non-refundable fee of £295.
Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate | King’s Magna 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Academic Scholarships are available to students entering Year 12 only. However, your child may be considered for Sports, Music and Drama Scholarships.
Sport scholarships are worth up to 100% of fees and are awarded to students who show exceptional sporting ability and potential in basketball, football, cricket, hockey, netball or rugby.
Drama Scholarships (for day students) typically cover up to 20% of fees, in addition to a weekly lesson lead by a LAMDA trained specialist. Music Scholarships are also estimated at up to 20% of fees and include a complimentary weekly music lesson.
Scholarships are awarded to candidates who have passed the 11+ entrance test. Please note that there will be further assessments, including an interview with a relevant member of staff.
