Introduction

Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital is an independent school in Clifton, Bristol. Founded in 1586 through the will of affluent merchant John Carr, the school gained its first Royal Charter in 1590.

The curriculum covers subjects in the following categories: Creative Arts, Humanities, Languages, Science, Maths, Sport and Technology.

Within the co-curricular programme, Seniors partake in Junior Drama, the Choir, Photography, Fencing, Gardening Club, Chess and Life Drawing, among others.

In line with the motto Whilst we have time, let us do good, QEH nurtures each pupil’s intellectual and spiritual independence whilst instilling in them a global perspective and an understanding that life is not just about themselves.

Encouraged to serve the community locally and beyond, Elizabethans grow into resilient, self-confident and self-aware individuals, respectful of different views and with a clear sense of right and wrong.

The school awards academic, music and sports scholarships. They don’t carry any fee reduction but can be coupled with a bursary if you are in a need of support with paying the fees.

In addition to its own resources, financial support (bursaries) to those in need comes from the John James Foundation (a Bristol-based charity), the QEH Elizabethan Society and friends of the school. Bursaries are means-tested and cover up to 100% of the fees.

Applications for bursaries must be submitted prior to the January entrance exams. If you wish to apply, you should request an Application for Financial Assistance Form from the Admissions Office. Note that funds are limited, and that performance in the entrance exams is taken into account.
