Introduction
Located in the Lincolnshire market town of Horncastle, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school. Established in 1327, it specialises in Mathematics, Science and Modern Languages and has gained academy status in 2012.

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Horncastle, has 120 places available in Year 7, and in the event of oversubscription, it will apply the following criteria, prioritising:
- Looked After children or previously Looked After children who reach the required standard for entry
- Children who have reached the qualifying standard for entry and who are eligible for Pupil Premium or Service Premium
- Eligible children whose permanent address is within the school’s catchment area, with priority being given on the basis of total scores in the entrance tests
- Eligible children from all other areas, with priority being given on the basis of total scores in the entrance tests.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Horncastle
To apply for a Year 7 place at QEGS Horncastle, on behalf of your child, you should complete and submit the 11+ registration form available on the school’s website.

The 11 Plus Exam at QEGS Horncastle consists of two tests:
⦿ Verbal Reasoning
These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.
⦿ Non-Verbal Reasoning/Spatial Reasoning
The Lincolnshire 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.
The Spatial Reasoning sections in the Lincolnshire 11 Plus Exam are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.
In order to select the top 25% of pupils, test scores are ranked in order and age-standardised.
