Ockbrook School is an independent coeducational day and boarding school situated in rural Derbyshire between the cities of Nottingham and Derby. Founded in 1799 by the Moravian Church, the school still maintains a Christian ethos.
In the Lower School, the curriculum covers English, drama, mathematics, science, history, geography, MFL, classical studies, technology, music, computing, PSHE and ICT.

The Whole School Open Day provides families with the opportunity to tour the facilities, meet staff and current students and experience the school’s setting and extensive grounds.
Personal tours and/or taster sessions can be arranged upon request to the Registrar.
Ockbrook School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To register your child with the school, you should complete an application from. Your child will then be invited to sit entrance examinations, set in the January of the year of entry. The offer of a place is based on examination results and interviews.
In a case of oversubscription, priority will be given to:
- Top-performing candidates in the 11+ examinations
- Children who have a sibling attending the school
Ockbrook School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit or performance in subject specific areas, such as Art, Drama, Music and Sports. Once rewarded, the Scholarship will be valid throughout your child’s time at the school.
Bursaries are awarded to pupils from low-income families and are fully means tested. To apply for a Bursary, you should complete and submit the Bursary Application Form prior to the entrance examination. Bursaries are subject to the annual review of your means and may vary, depending on changes in your financial circumstances.
Note that if your child’s conduct and performance are unsatisfactory, the award may be withdrawn.
Ockbrook School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Ockbrook School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:
- Verbal Reasoning
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
