Introduction
Oakham School is a co-educational independent school in the market town of Oakham in Rutland. The school was founded in 1584 by Archdeacon Robert Johnson, who also established Uppingham School, located just a few miles away.
Pupils in Senior School study art & design, biology, business, chemistry, classics, computer science, design & technology, drama & theatre, English, economics, Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS), French, German, Spanish or Italian, geography, history, mathematics, music, PE, physics, politics, religion, philosophy, sport and science.
The school’s Theory of Knowledge (ToK) course, as a compulsory component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma, guides students in exploring different areas of knowledge, helping them to maximise their potential and broaden their horizons.
As a result of the school’s efforts to ensure a love of learning, students are fully immersed in the future-focused curriculum, coupled with an outstanding co-curriculum and underpinned by proactive pastoral care.

Open Events for Oakham School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Open Mornings are held on Saturday mornings and provide you and your child with an opportunity to experience the school’s atmosphere. A typical Open Morning begins with coffee and a chat with the staff, including Housemasters/Housemistresses and tutors, followed by a talk from the Head and deputies. You will then attend a group tour of a house and the school, which finishes with lunch.

Oakham School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Registering your child does not imply any commitment, it just guarantees that you are informed about future steps. The registration form is available on the school’s website and the registration fee of £150 is non-refundable.
11+ entry depends on your child’s results in the entrance assessment and the interview with a senior staff member, as well as the quality of their school reports. Offers of places are made in February, to be accepted with a payment of a deposit.
Oakham School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
At 11+, scholarships are awarded in the following areas: Academic ability and Music. The awards carry a fee reduction, which may be increased in value subject to means-testing. Oakham School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Oakham School 11+ entrance exam consists of the following assessments:
- English
- Mathematics
- Online CAT4 exam
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) measures developed abilities via modules testing Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Reasoning.
