Normanhurst School is a co-educational independent school in North Chingford in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Founded in 1923, it is part of the Oak-Tree Group of Schools under the ownership of the Hagger Family.

Open Events for Normanhurst School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
The school holds an Open Evening in October and a ‘School in Action’ Open Morning in March. The October Open Evening includes interactive presentations around the campus and speeches from the Headmistress and current Senior School pupils. The Open Morning in March is less formal.
During these events, you will have the opportunity to take a pupil-led tour of the school, see displays, observe lessons taking place and meet members of the teaching staff.
Personal visits can be arranged with the Registrar.
Normanhurst School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
In order to place your child on the waiting list for Year 7 entry, you should complete the Registration Form and return it with a non-refundable deposit of £50 to the school.
Entry into Year 7 is subject to performance in the Entrance Examination, consisting of papers which assess skills in three areas. The admissions process also includes an interview with the Headmistress, a confidential report from your child’s current school and copies of previous school reports.
In cases of oversubscription, priority will be given to:
- A child whose sibling is in the school or whose parent is a former pupil
- A child whose parent is a member of staff
- A child that demonstrates particular skill, talent or aptitude
- A child who will remain at the school until age 16.
To confirm acceptance of the place, you will be expected to complete the Acceptance
Form and return it with a deposit of £500, £250 of which will be credited against the first term’s fees, whilst the remaining will be refunded at the end of your child’s final term at school.
Normanhurst School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
On the basis of results in the examination and interview process, your child may be offered a Scholarship in the areas of Art, Drama, Music, Sport and Academic Ability.
Means-tested bursaries are not available.

The Normanhurst School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following tests:
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess their logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning test measures their ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, assessing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
