New Hall School is a Catholic co-educational, independent boarding and day school in the village of Boreham, Chelmsford. Founded in 1642, the school operates the ‘diamond’ model. [1]

7+ assessments take place on Taster Day, which is arranged with the Admissions Team at a mutually convenient date. Please follow this link to access the registration form.


If an offer is made, you will be asked to confirm the place with a payment of a deposit, refunded when your child leaves the school.

The New Hall School 7 Plus (7+) exam consists of the following assessments:


  • English Writing
  • Maths


The English assessment examines writing skills. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.  


The Maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of times tables.
